Just picked up this Case 62052 XX (no dot) . Pretty little knife with some wear but life left. Seems that it exhibits the same characteristics of another knife I have shown here that turns out to be a refurb. This one looks like the shield is pinned. The color of the covers looks like later stuff. What say ye?

That looks legit to me (i.e. original shield, bone, everything). The blotchiness of the bone seems to match many of Case's older 'red' or 'brown' bone covers.

Nice knife.

The stamp is for the 'XX era' knives (1940-'64). Is there a pattern stamp on it? If not, that would likely date it pre-1950. Case didn't put pattern stamps on blades until after 1949.

Lacking in enough experience to answer....

But that's well matched red. Very good catch.

i'd say its original, and i'd also say that its gorgeous. Your concern is justifiable, the blades are nicely worn and patinaed, as well as sharpened; yet the scales are vibrant, so there's some concern there. However, either way, you really got a nice piece there.

I believe it's OK. The handles look well fitted into the bolsters and worn enough, blade wear is quite a bit but this may be due to over enthusiastic/incompetent sharpening. IF it's refurbed then it looks like a very good job and it's a highly desirable piece.

Regards, Will

I've seen that row of "pinholes" (back cover) down knives of similar vintage - Looks original to me.

Nice one!

Thanks for the info guys! Been wanting this patter in a Case for a while. Would have like something closer to mint but this ol knife still have some cuttin' to do!

Your post had me looking around on the web today, at other examples of the same pattern & vintage. There are some 'mintier' ones out there, but they're not exactly cheap. ;)

Based on the other examples seen in that search, I'm pretty sure you've got a good one there.

True, they jump wayyy up really quickly for the same vintage. This one has some pretty good wear is only 1940-1960 so age doesnt excuse the condition. The Case Congress pattern in general is very collected and very expensive for what you get.
