There is a posting on evilbay for a blue G-10 handled Native, Bladeforums model, 1 of 300. The blade etch doesn't look legit to me and the handles don't look like G-10 to me either. They look like a textured FRN plus someone drilled two large "dimples" into it. Buyer beware!

Checked my Blue G-10 handled Bladeforums Natives to that one and it is not legit. BUYER BEWARE

I dont know about the authenticity of the knife and I know you know your Natives so I'll take your word for it. I can tell you the seller is a honest guy. I did a trade with him a few months ago for a fairly expensive knife and the transaction went very smooth. It sounds like maybe he does not know what he has?

Etch does look a bit odd in the one shot, like the dark and light areas are reversed compared to mine, but that may just be lighting since it does appear to be the right size, font, and location. Plus it looks exactly like the etching on mine in another shot.

Dimples are definitely an aftermarket modification, so collector value is out the window. Handles look ok to me otherwise, perhaps worn a bit smooth from carry. Have to assume it was a user, given the indexing dimples. Also, I could be wrong on this, but the birds eye view shows something that looks suspiciously like a "seconds" notch to me. It's on the right side of the spine, forward of the jimping.

The finger cutout is the wrong shape as well. If it is legit, the previous owner modified the handle contour.

ROFLMAO! (Sorry, but it IS funny!) That link goes to the OP's thread at the Spyderco forum! (Note the OP's sigline pic on the pics in the Spyderco thread)

On another note: That thread (and those pics) are what got me started collecting the Natives myself, besides the fact this it is one heckuva knife design! Of course, I only have about 12 Natives so far, but I only started collecting them last April!

Think we can all agree the handle has been modified. The indexing dimples are the most obvious butchery, but as the OP pointed out, the contour of the handle has been modded too. I'd assume that was done to make the knife easier to open by fully exposing the Spyderhole. At least that's why I did a similar mod to a regular FRN C41.

However, I still think the knife did start out as a legitimate BladeForums Native. The engraving in at least one of the pictures looks identical to that on mine, and the steel, blue nail polish coated clip, and bright steel barrel bolt are correct for a BF Native. They were all engraved "1 of 300", not individually numbered in an "nnn of 300" format like some of the other Spyderco Forum and BladeForums Spyderco Forum knives, so that too is correct. The G-10 handle may show some signs of smoothing, either from pocket carry or sanding, since some folks do that to G-10 as well, but I'd say it most certainly is Spyderco's blue G-10.

So, for me at least, the only remaining question is "worth". Again I think we can all agree that "collector value" is out the window. But it's still a G-10 Native, something folks have expressed a desire for, and the mods, while not attractive, probably don't interfere with usability, so it has to be worth "something". Considering that even without the mods, the seller noting that the knife had been carried, used, and sharpened alone should have killed collector interest, I don't really view the listing as a "rip off".
