Is this a sirupate or hanshee

The more I look at it the more it says sirupate. It has the curveness, but not
quite enough. Maybe JP will chime in with his take on it.

The closest blade to current HI offerings is (to me) clearly the Junge (or Jangee if you will.) It matches that blade in appearance and described dimensions. It does not have a "fuller on either side" as stated but a simple Sword of Shiva groove.

I also find it telling that 4 of the 5 pics are with the blade IN the scabbard. I would prefer closeups of the karda and chakma and both sides of the blade before spending almost $300. Unless you just want it, (which is a perfectly good reason to get it! (-:), I would forgo the brass handle and save over $200 and just get a new Jange.

Regards,

Norm

Naw, I am not planning on bidding on it. I'm just trying to educate myself as to the different blade styles and fittings. I need JP's book.

Red Flag

I worry when items on eBay have pictures that do not allow you to determine the over-all condition of the piece. Despite that concern, I bought a khukuri on eBay with useless pictures, and, sure enough, it was a mess. This was so even after the seller have comforting answers to my several specific questions. When asked how what he said was so far from reality, he said that he must have misunderstood when I asked about "pitting" and "crack" in the blade. It had both in abundance. :( . I somehow convinced him that it was better to accept the item back and be unpaid than to refuse to take the item back and be unpaid. :)

As to the name to give this one, it seems that the kamis are not overly concerned with categories or rigid styles when they create. ;) I see something like a cross between a siru and a BAS.

IIRC Uncle Bill has commented he sometims feels the kamis do stuff like this just to drive him nuts. As good an explanation as any I've heard.

Gents, not a hanshee nor a sirupate. The curves and grip shape aren't right for that classification.

an interesting piece nonetheless.....I do like the curve.
