I bought a knife at a gunshow yesterday. It's in a Spyderco box with a nice
>velvet case. The fellow I bought it from said it is an early Spyderco before
>they were marked. It's apx 4.25 closed, no serrations on the blade, and the
>lock release is in the front instead of the back. The handles seem to be black
>phonolic (sp?) or some kind of micarta. Can anyone confirm what this knife is
>or it's value?? It was made in Seki City. and has solo on the other side.

Thanks in advance. Randy

Welcome to the forums. From your description, it's hard to tell. Is the spyderco logo on the clip? It would help if you could post a picture. Or maybe you could go to www.spyderco.com
to see if it's there.

Welcome to the forums!

I have a Solo knife, Japanese manufacture, and sold by Ironstone, which is now Spyderco's factory outlet.

Actually 4.25" closed is on the money for the SO02 as shown in the 1996 products catalog. This is the larger of the two offered. Literature states that it comes in a leather protective pouch.

Randy - Welcome and thank you for the visit. Spyderco owns the Solo name and patents. We decided long ago to keep the round hole as a Spyderco trademark. Knives that we design and produce with other opening methods such as the Solo (lobe opener), were given other names to avoid confusion of the round hole.

Nakano is correct (thanx Nakano) in that it does sound like a Solo 2. Very nice gentleman's folder like the Solo version of the large Calypso.
