Is this a warranty issue?

On my orange military, near the rear of the handle, there is a rough place on both sides of g-10. To me it seems like the router, of whatever tool they use to shape the g-10 chattered around the corner. It has been like this since I got it , but its hard to send off your edc.

...No. Not a warranty issue. Maybe you could try exchanging it from where ever you bought it?

Only Spyderco can say with certainty what is a warranty issue and what isn't. That said, IMHO, there's a difference between an "imperfection" and a "defect" and, while Spydercos are warrantied against defects in workmanship, to me your knife only has an imperfection, and a rather minor one at that.

Typically, warranty issues are centered around a functional defect. The g10 being machined away a bit differently, is more of a cosmetic matter I would think. The knife is no longer produced so, there is no telling what the actual "repair" would be. My guess is that it would be replaced with a standard black/satin variety.

Is there not some level at which a "cosmetic" issue is a "warranty" issue? "Workmanship" is expressly warranted.

Of course there is, Thomas, and I don't think anyone here has implied otherwise. For example, a badly warped scale would not affect function, but it would still be a warranty issue. I don't think this is one of those cases but, as I mentioned before, only Spyderco can say definitely whether a particular cosmetic blemish is serious enough to be considered a defect in workmanship and covered by their warranty. Only "problem" is, it will cost the OP a few dollars to send it in, and another $5 to get it sent back if they decide that it's not covered. And, if by some chance they do decide it is a warranty issue, the best they can do for him is a credit at SFO for the MRSP of the knife, since it's a discontinued model. To me, neither outcome seems particularly attractive, but that's just me.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have had the knife for a while, and it really isn't a big issue ( that's why it hardly leaves my pocket). But it was something that has crossed my mind from time to time.
