I love traditional knives but I also love pocket clips. P-7 Suspension Clips have really been a great addition to some of my knives to solve this dilemma but you need something to clip them to. The Beer Scout it a perfect example of this. I clip the P-7 clip to the bail and it's the perfect carry for me. I wish more traditionals came with a lanyard hole.

So, did I "sin" by adding the bail to the Viper? :D

there is something very jedi about adding a bail to the lanyard loop, lots of knives have had bails for ages, i dont see a problem

Not as long as you don't start posting all manner of new fangled contraptions to attach your Viper too!

Hmmm, what all kinds of things can I clip it to now? Thanks for the idea!!! :p

I see, now you are trying to trip me up! I changed clip to attach in my response. A nice leather lanyard would be suitable! ;)

No sin. The old timers called them shackles, instead. Bails on pails (also: Fred bails like crazy before the rowboat goes down). Bales on cotton, wool and hay wagons. :) A bail is a perfect way to utilize a lanyard hole, in my opinion. Otherwise, and your opinion may well vary, I don't really like lanyard holes. Especially on fixed blades. But a bail makes it easier to use a quick-detach feature of some kind, which I think makes the setup legitimate.

Never really been a fan of Lanyard holes in general but they sure do come in handy for bails. I'll now be on buying run for some new to me traditionals with lanyard holes. I just don't carry many traditionals anymore without some way to clip them. The little P-7 works perfectly.

I wonder what the traditional version of the p7 (titanium clip) is? I've seen the chains that the boys knives used, also varieties of rope lanyards, but there must of been something made out of metal like the p7. Copper or steel hook that hung on your pocket or belt maybe?

I started buying these Barlow's to give away as gifts. Because they are very cheap, and not half bad (especially for the price). I usually buy them a dozen at a time. But I had probably given 15-20 away before I even noticed that they had a lanyard hole. The wood on all of them are nicely finished. But the only thing that really bugged me was the "Barlow" imprint/etch is upside down from all of my older or traditional Barlow's. I keep extras in my cars, bike saddlebag, and office. They are an inexpensive way to introduce people to the value of having a knife handy. And maybe reintroduce the value and utility of simple traditionals.

So is this a no-no to show this otherwise regular Barlow with a lanyard hole and no bail? Personally I like lanyard options. [emoji12]

This, I guess. It was pretty much standard for all scout knives, back in the say. You slipped your belt through one end, and clipped the other end to the bail.

Thank you buzz for the picture. What you posted was the closest I could think of, but the more I thought about it I bet there was something similar to the p7 that would allow you to suspend the knife inside your pocket? Or maybe not... since you didn't have credit cards, cell phones, and other things to carry you could just throw your knife in your pocket.
