I got an insane deal on this spyderco G-10 knife at a garage sale... looked like the guy didn't know much about knives. But now im skeptical if it's real because I looked up the retail price of this thing and it's well over $200 while I only paid $20... Any help would be appreciated.

It's fake jimping is a dead give away.

What model is that supposed to be anyway?

Damnnnnn... I knew it was too good to be true... ugh...

How can you guys tell? How do I watch out for fakes like this?

I don't think that they use Capital letters on their entire name, do they? Plus, that font seems off and not their font...

P.S. I must stand corrected as I researched further and came to the realization that REAL Spyderco knives do seem to also use Capital lettering plus that font. Bad news? The knife you posted is still a counterfeit.

Sorry man.

On this one, I wasn't already aware of these fakes, but the small opening hole was an immediate red flag. The g10 color also looks different. As another person mentioned, the lack of jimping in the choil is wrong. The clip is also wrong. The lettering looks off. Then, just to be 100% sure, it only took me a few minutes to find them for sale on one of the big sites that sells fakes. They go for about $20.

Your spider isn't fat enough, and Sal's signature isn't quite right. Just a couple more things I noticed that I didn't see anybody else mention.

blah... i guess when it's too good to be true, it is.

I appreciate all your feedback guys. I'll try to keep an eye out next time..

Nah, not too much. I paid $20 at a garage sale. Shoulda known something was fishy.

You can tell by the Jimping almost every time so far. When you open the blade and hold the knife exactly horizontally and look at the jimping:

On the real Spydercos you will notice the jimping is cut sonthat way it looks like stairs going up the spine of the knife. They will go up the spine of the knife where the little "hill" is that goes up around the Spyderhole.

On the fake ones the jimping is cut more so the peaks point straight up like ^^^^^.

The clip is wrong for sure

The spydie hole appears to be drilled/cut too far from the spine, if that makes sense.

The pivot screw looks wonky too.

I could be wrong, but I thought the ZDP was laminated and I can not see a lamination line, but they may have made a solid ZDP 189 blade.

The jimping looks wrong as described above.

^^^ The blade is indeed solid ZDP-189 on the Stretch. Time for another picture in this thread, here's one for comparison...
