Is this an old Vic Ranger or what?

Smartknives:
On Smartknives.com's "Victorinox Ranger Late 80's Knife " page, it lists these tools, among others:
* Scissors with Screw
* Wood Saw
* Metal Saw and File
* Corkscrew with Grooves
* Chisel
* Fine Screwdriver <<---
Mine is a camper model and has all (yes, CS grooves and screw) the above EXCEPT FOR THE FINE SCREWDRIVER. The back of mine has corkscrew w/ grooves in outter-most channel; the chisel in the next channel; two tool-less filled channels; then the awl w/o needle hole in the 5th channel slot. (My front side 'Bottle Opener with Large Screwdriver' has the Wire Stripper notch).

What Ranger model do I have, or is it a unique something-or-other?

2nd issue. The smaller blade has a a sharp tip, but a ding/bend on the sharp edge about 1/16 to 1/8 inch back. For collection / selling / value purposes, would you advise [1] having Vic replace it under their forever warranty, or [2] let it alone?

Also, did Vic change the material they use for the channel separaters? On this ancient Ranger, most seem pitted on the edges

Can you rephrase your question, please?

A Ranger is not the same as the Camper...and a Camper never had a fine screwdriver. An eyeglass screwdriver as an accessory, maybe, but not a fine screwdriver.

Maybe you are trying to say that your knife has the "Camping" logo on the scale? If so, I assume what you have on the back side of the knife is in fact the fine screwdriver and the thing you mentioned was a chisel, is not. Check for me if the edge is sharpened and beveled on one side. If it is not, then that is the screwdriver-not the chisel.

What Ranger model do I have, or is it a unique something-or-other?

Thanks Bama Lou.
[1]. You are right: my handle has the Camping insignia, not camper.
[2] So you are saying Smartknives.com's tool list for an 80's Ranger w/ Camping insignia is INcorrect to list b-o-t-h "# Chisel # Fine Screwdriver"?
[3] Smartknives.com's "small screwdriver" pic shows the tool's top edge w/ a convex shape over the fingernail slot, blending into a straight incline (toward the point), which then blends to a flat edge parellel to the bottom edge. Sort of like a goose's profile (see link address below.). Mine's profile is top edge; bevel from top edge to end/tip; end/tip; a gentler bevel from end/tip to bottom edge; then bottom edge. PICTURE-WISE, MINE IS CLOSER TO THE CHISEL PIC.

Very soon, I will update to include your thought and an additional pic re my mystery tool.

Thanks!

PS to Bama Lou: my SwissChamp has the "Chisel" & "Fine screwdriver" tools, and the mystery tool on my would-be Ranger clearly differs from them. Maybe it is a hybrid, but for sure it is closer to the chisel's profile.

Hello Polk09,

Definitely a fine screwdriver. (unless my eyes are going bad at 21 years of age)

This is the picture that gave it away...:thumbup:

As an addendum, take note that Victorinox has evolved the "fine screwdriver" to what we know now, from the old, nearly square cornered version, to the tapered version.

Let me borrow your picture for illustration purposes.

Look at the tool to the left of the hook- that is the latest version of the fine screwdriver.

Bama Lou, I now think you are right. Key point: seems the chisel has a machined bevel to form a sharp-edged tip, while the screwdrivers have something closer to just a bend line. See pic showing all 3 tools.
