Is this authentic?

2 years ago when I was living in Atlanta, Georgia, I saw some Spyderco Delicas in clamshell packaging at a Sports Authority store. I've never seen a Military model in this type of packaging, but it looks legitimate.

Yes, Spyderco does have the Military in clamshell packaging. I have a price list from Spyderco and many of the models are available to dealers (distributors) in clamshell pack. This is just another reason that Spyderco has a continuing SKU problem.

EMS sells delicas and driads in clamshell. when i got my spydercard, it was in clamshell. my native, however, came in a box.

One must realize that many dealers, especially large stores and Military PXs require clam packs or they won't stock the model.

The reality is that the box doesn't cut anything and costs money, but the BIGGER reality is that the box or clam is required for "whatever" reasons that exist (marketing 202).

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that it is Spyderco authentic; I am considering placing a bid on the item in question. Even more important to me, though, was the question of whether or not somebody was doing a REALLY good job of ripping off my favorite knife company!

Some dealers like to hang them out of reach for customers to see but not touch. I prefer to handle a knife before buying it. Just a cheaper way of displaying stock I guess.

As I recall, my first Spydie came that way back in '93 at the Ft. MacClellan BX. An Endura. Probably better for viewing and security when left out in aisles instead of stuck in display cases?
