First I tried an orange, thought maybe I didnt clean the handle well...used soap water, then thinner to clean the handle. Still the same, Then I sand down the handle, same thing. So then I sand down the whole blade, same thing. then I thought maybe its the orange, I went out and bought vinegar, and soak the whole blade for an hour, same thing. Why wont the handle patina! The patina is the same on both sides of the blade. anyone got any idea why this is happening?

Its like they took a broken bk14 and welded it to a bk24 handle or something. Its almost like its two different metals

Its differentially heat treated. The handle is softer then the blade so it doesn't patina as well as the harder steel. So yes, it is normal.

Man Im so happy that this is normal and that I dont have a funky blade. You guys are Pros. Thanks a lot!

Well, it was from the vinegar...after soaking the blade and seeing that the colors werent matching and running out of ideas as to why this was happening, I soaked my sock in vinegar and only covered the blade portion of the knife to see if it had anything to do with oxidation for about 15 minutes and thats what gave the blade part that texture. BTW it was soaking for hours before i did the sock thingy.

Friend, that is a sweet patina. What you have there is perfectly normal, and doesn't hurt a single thing. Nice knife.

You might be able to darken up the handle by just doing a few thin coats of vinegar/mustard on just the handle part. My bk11 had some funky patina patterns going on, but I was able to level it all out with a little patience and a paintbrush.
