Hi
I recieved this in the mail today and was pleasantly surprised, it was nicer than I expected but I noticed the tang stamp has no plus + stamp and I seem to recall some of the early ones can get patina (light corrosion) I thought someone here would know if it was stainless or not?

This one is stag bone but I noticed a lot of the Schrade clasp knives are Imitation stag (delrin) and the sellers I have seen almost always call them stag. Its a little annoying.

I dont have the answer to your question but that is a sweet knife Tim. I agree about the sellers anymore it seems like anything that looks like bone or looks like a bone of any sort is stag. drives me nuts too. Either way great knife pal.-Joel

Yeh, thanks for that, its definitely a cool knife. Its finda funny because I contacted the seller about two weeks after the listing had finished asking to purchase it as it had had no bids and it ended up being possibly my favourite knife.

As for other sellers, yes its like they know nothing at all about the knife except what it looks like and they even get that wrong. Maybe they should tell us if it has a blade or not, it would be about as helpful.
Cheers
Regards Tim

I have been looking at this style of Clasp knife for some time, At one point for the right price will add one to the collection. Please clarify, are they Stag or Stag bone, I was under the assumtion that they were Genuine Stag.

Sorry Rusty, obviously I dont know what Im talking about either, it may well be sambar stag and not stag bone I really dont know although it does look very similar almost identical to the stag on my WW2 LB7s which Ive heard many times is India stag???
If you decide on one of these clasp stag folders Id ask the seller very specifically about cracks around pins as there have been two stag clasp schrades on ebay that sold recently (one 0000 stag for $360 plus) that were advertised as having cracks or around one of the pins. Not that is a critical factor if it was very small. I would just want to know before purchasing exactly what I was buying. The pin location on these is placed on the thinner part of the stag.

Actually it must be Stainless Steel as it has 1980 on it.

Thanks for the info Tim and the heads up on the pin issue, I have been to a few local knife shows with the regular sellers attending most shows, one guy has had an NKCA Clasp for sale since last year $165.00. Most occasions I end up leaving with a small handle full of Schrades. next time (end of Sept) If it's still there, Maybe I might just lump out for it.

Yes $165 is still a very good price for one. I heard from a good friend this morning that are really worth alot more than this, of course knives often go for less than true value probably often due to lack of knowledge but $165 is still very good especially if you can hand inspect if first.
