Is this compound .5micron?

I agree with the previous post. If you decide to purchase the compound, call the company and ask what it is first.

It's probably Micro-fine.

If so however, I'll issue a warning. Micro-fine Honing Compound (AKA Veritas Honing Compound in Canada) is made with .5 micron chromium oxide. This is deceptive because they don't tell you that there is aluminum oxide abrasive in it that is of various size. There is a good thread at a woodworking forum here that explains the problem with this fairly thoroughly. I can attest that it does produce a waxy mirror finish. However the scratch pattern produced on the edge will look much different under a microscope than it will with the Hand American products listed above. The edge produced is not as keen either IMHO. The only abrasive in Hand American products is Chromium Oxide. I also appreciate not having to clean waxy residue off of my blades.

Hope my opinionated rant helps. I'm a little disgruntled after blowing $20 bucks on the Micro-fine product. :)
