One of my new toys is a Spydie Lum Tanto in Ti handle. It's my 4th Spydie but not the last.

Very nice knife with the usual spydie solid lock up and sharpness as well as smooth opening.
It is a little heavier than I expected given the scales/handles are Ti.

Anyway
When the knife is closed the blade has some play in it and the blade can be pushed into the sides of the liners. Also the blade does touch the back spacer when closing the knife. If it's not correct I would send it in to the factory to have it looked at. If it is correct I'll leave it alone.

Thank's

Play when closed is pretty normal in a lot of knives. It is fine as long as the blade isn't naturally resting against one of the liners. If the edge of the blade is contacting the backspacer then you should certainly send it in.

well, just checked the 4 spydies in my pockets right now...
-FRN Delica, g-10 wegner jr, SS Dragonfly all have enough play closed to touch the sides
-Tufram cricket has NO PLAY at all closed

The only one with any play opened is the cricket, and that minimal(about 1-2mm either side).

I'd say some play is to be expected...

One of my SS Police models has a tiny bit of play when closed, and lightly scrapes the side when opening, but zero play opened. Perhaps in some cases the weight/size of the blade may cause more or less closed play.

Hi Slicer. A little play when closed is normal. BTW, welcome to our forum. Touching the back spacer is not right, but will probably go away with a few sharpenings. We don't make this model anymore, so we couldn't replace it. If it really bothers you, you could send it back to warrantee & repair and Keith cold sharpen it for you. Taking the knife apart and trying to rebuild it for that one small problem might not be worth the time and effort?

FWIW my lum ti tanto has some blade play side to side when closed but does not hit the back spacer..........and lock up, etc is 100% also...my favorite tanto folder, actually the only one suitable for EDC, IMHO......
