I bought this off e-bay from a top-rated seller and tried comparing it to photos of genuine SOCFKs.

I've read in other posts that the earlier versions were 1A even though they were tanto-style blades.

As you can see, the other side of the screw is round whereas most emersons I've seen are flat.

I have taken the knife apart and the washers are the same as my other Emersons. The secondary detent is present. Any thoughts?

There is nothing on that knife that would say it's fake to me. I say it's real. Another thing to think about is that knife is obviously quite well used. It's safe to say it is a genuine 2000 knife and that would see it being made before the spate of fakes we have seen over the last few years. (Even the "best" newly made fakes are still easy to spot).

Also, the older EKIs did use a domed pivot, I have a couple like that too.

Thanks for the input! I feel a little better now except for the fact that I paid about $118 for the knife when I could've bought a brand new one for $140 :( Oh well, live and learn.

Ah, don't worry about that. It's a "vintage" knife so as stated has some coolness to it, it was also broken in for you and the fact that it's an older knife means that you have two Titanium liners over the new set up using a Ti lock and an SS off side liner, I would see those as a pluss.

You almost making me not want to modify it. Almost ;)

since its a user it doesnt have collector value (collectors except in really rare circumstances demand LNIB stuff) so why not mod it, if thats what ya wanna do.

That's good to know. Now I won't feel bad when I have the blade resharpened and refinished along with some mods to the grips. The knife is definitely meant to be used.

Looks gen-yoo-wine to me.......

If you like shopping on e-bay a good way to distinguish fake Emmies from real ones is to check out the serrations. Emersons have a distinctive pattern (dubbed dragons teeth) that the copy artists often neglect to notice.

The thumbstud knurling is also quite distinctive and they usually dont copy it accurately.

The philips head screws - not always duplicated correctly. Dont forget the one holding the thumb ramp in, that will also be a Phillips.

But once you've looked at enough Emersons, its pretty easy to spot a fake from a real one.

Of course on e-bay the pics are often really crappy which doesnt help. One of the reasons I prefer to buy on the forums.
