Here's a damascus sebenza I just received

Here's my first non Damascus sebenza I received below

As you can see the non Damascus below doesn't have any visible grease attracting dust / etc.

Is this normal procedure for the above damascus or it's just hit or miss? The non Damascus opens smoother ironically but I've also had it longer. The newer one seems to be attracting dust in there but the knives are perfect otherwise ( mechanically ) It's just something I have noticed and wanted to get some feedback.

My Chris Reeves often came with a little extra grease poking out here and there around the pivot. I just used a q-tip to clean it up.

Not really...or maybe it is?
Just glad there is some lube..use it and enjoy it!

Haha I understand the nature of my question can be a bit odd or " excessive " in its own right, but I was just curious if others have had similar experiences ( as I only own 3 CRK ) and this is the first to have had enough to attract dust in the pivot. Didn't know if it had anything to do with the Damascus blade itself ( as I'm not comfortable enough to take it apart as of yet on my own. )

The Damascus / inlays are more like collector works of art to me to be honest, I only use the Mnandi or polished blade sebenzas and just keep the damascus stored for now.

So your blades would display similarly to the above photos with excess? The odd part is with as much grease as is in there you'd think it would be smoother than the polished blade but again I haven't opened and closed it enough to " work it in " as I hear the washers like to do.

All mine have shipped to me with anything from the right amount of grease to way too much grease. This includes those that have come from spa. Interestingly it's usually the ceramic ball lock up models.

The only Damascus I've bought new didn't have excessive grease. I've gotten a couple of S35VN CRK's that had a little extra grease. The first left handed Starbenza I bought virtually had no grease in it. Had to take it apart to see why it felt stiff. I just wipe the extra off, put it back in the tube  and start enjoying such a fine knife.
So, I would guess it's a hit or miss, look at it like this, you're getting something extra at no added cost. Down here, we call that lagniappe.

Did you just finish a double laparoscopy?

If you think it is too much, take it apart, wipe it off, apply to your liking, and reassemble.

I'd say only 1/10 of my CRKs has been received without a seriously greasy pivot. I've actually been running my Lg Inkosi all but dry for the last few days because I just can't stand how much gunk even a small amount of lube attracts in this knife.

I've been experimenting with "running dry" and am pleased with the results...

Be careful. Per CRK the grease is for both lubrication and protection from oxidation. There were some pictures on here of someone's knife that was serviced with a different lubricant and one of the results was corrosion in the pivot area.

I generally run it under hot water, and dish soap to clean contaminants , as I use it for food prep a lot... Possibly butter is a good lube ;-)

Out of respect for dealers I generally do not handle the blade with my bare hands when I immediately receive it in case of returns. I understand it may be out of the ordinary to most, but I wear the same gloves when I handle bullion at a fraction of a cost, why not a 700 dollar knife?

Once I inspect the knife and it's to my liking I generally won't worry over fingerprints unless I plan to resell.

If it was a regular sebenza I wouldn't even bother with gloves, my first inlayed damascus large Sebenza? Yeah I'm gonna use gloves that cost a few pennies each.
