Is this hanger (short cutlass) worth $30 as a toy?

Okay, I know I'm setting myself up for massive abuse for even suggesting this, but would this sword be an okay SLO for $30 or so?

Should I assume this would be a "don't sharpen it, and don't even hit a pop bottle with it because it will shatter into a million pieces and go right into your eye", or would it maybe be okay for whacking objects with?

If nothing else, it might be a cheap way to figure out if I would like to get a 20"-24" hanger or naval dirk (as mentioned in my earlier thread)

I hadn't really considered hangers before, but saw a few at the Maritime Museum in Halifax this evening, and thought "wow, I like cutlasses, and I like short swords!"

EDIT: then again, SwordForums mentioned this one by Popinjay, $240 and up

A good cheap (er) one would be the CS 1917 cutlass that you can find around 150 here and there.

The Cold Steel item is mislabled as a1917, like much of the company's other sword ad copy. Folk generally like it though. Not much to go wrong with a blade like that.

Either Lynn had a 1941 (or Dutch Klewang) in hand when he decided to call it a 1917, or he just doesn't have a clue (as likely). the 1917 has a solid basket, no cutouts.

Cheers

Hotspur; I could point to originals at good prices but it would probably fall on deaf ears:rolleyes:

Survey says don't do it. The blade might not shatter and put your eye out, but the tang is undoubtedly a rat tail, and that's likely to turn your chopper into an indirected projectile weapon. If you want something for just chopping on stuff go buy a machete, you can get them for less then 30 dollars and they are a whole lot safer. :)
