This knife appeared in another thread, and as an avid collector of Harness Jacks, I am curious to know more about the punch blade. I am planning an article on punches, so would like to find out as much as possible, such as time frame, patent if it exists, etc.
If anyone can shed some light here, I'd be grateful! Does anyone know if this knife was made by Camillus? If so, can you estimate the time period?
And finally, has anyone seen a punch like this with a patent number on it?? It has "Spiral Punch" stamped on it. Respectfully submitted, Charlie C.

I can't pin it down exactly, but I think this could be a Schrade Cut Co knife. I find nothing on the spiral punch, but the tipped sleeveboard jack, long mark, and shield are all found in the SCC Catalog E and Supplements. They also used black celluloid, black smooth bone and ebony wood during that time period (1926-38) as well as much later into the '50s ( I am missing references from 1938-48 though). Having said all this, I'll admit that I don't have early Camco catalogs and ads either, so I cannot eleminate them as a source for this knife.

I would say definitely a Camillus IMHO....Camillus used the "spiral punch" extensively and the blade grinds etc look like Camillus to me. I would guess late 1930's to 1940's.

I thought Schrade at first too, Codger, from the general pattern, but a friend Emailed me this Camillus pic that leans me toward Camillus. The punch is certainly very close. Knifeaholic, I think your humble opinion is correct!

Camillus used the spiral punch in many of their knives. At one time Camillus supplied Utica Cutlery with spiral punches.

Camillus also made many of the Keen Kutter knives.
