Is This Knife Collectable?

A couple of months ago, I ordered a strange type of knife, and I don't rightly know how to classify it. Bought it for ten dollars from Smoky Mountain and, in fact, I got the last one.

The knife is the S&W Powerglide, and the blade folds up through the middle. It seems to be a strong design and the knife itself doesn't have a clip but, rather, a nylon case with a velcro flap and a belt clip in the back.

The knife apparently didn't sell well, which is why I bought a number of them elsewhere at a little higher price.

QUESTION: Are knives like these liable to become collectors' items? They're just strange enough.... Also, does anyone know the story behind the knife and how it might be legally viewed? I don't think it could be classed as a fixed blade. Thanks!

to be blunt, i highly doubt that any knife from smith and wesson will have any significant collector value.

that said, it appears you got this at a great price, so if you like the knife, its a good deal.

from the pics i have seen, it does not appear to be any type of balisong or similar opening system.

legality will vary, but if it isnt spring loaded butterfly, i cant see any reason it would be restricted.

they still sell them lots of places so i doubt i will be valuable anytime soon, if ever

Their takeoffs of the inexpensive German paratrooper knives that UC used to sell and not the Colt gravity ones.

If I recall correctly they won a award for that knife in 01 or 02 at the Blade show but I can't rember the category.

Their are people out there that collect all styles of knives and that design has it's following but S&W made a large number of them so if it does ever come around it'll be a generation's thing IMO, and then I doubt it'll break the fifty dollar mark but who knows.

Be careful with that thing it'll pinch the heck out of you as well as cut you if your not careful with it.

Helle.

now, now... the last knife made under contract with their name on it will be collectible because it will represent a significant event in the knife industry.

no S&W knife is are will ever be a collector item imho, oh maybe if they made knives back in the '20s or something, maybe one of those, but no modern S&W will ever be, imho anyway.

just too many of them made.

i would imagine a CRKT would be before a S&W FWIW.
