Hey all, new to the forum, mainly signed up to ask this question as I'm sure somebody knows better than I. I've looked at the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife_legislation#Canada however I am still confused on whether or not I'm allowed to carry my knife on me legally in my pocket as I see a restriction on "Constant Companions". Below is a video of my knife to give you all a better look and judge for yourselves. Sorry the quality is not grade A but I just wanted to do something quick up for this post. Thanks for any help!

Which Province?

But the part that was interesting you was a bit further down the article.
wikipedia said:
One-handed opening knives have been designated as legal to import by Canada Border Services as long as they don't fall into one of the prohibited categories.
There is no length restriction on carrying knives within the Criminal Code of Canada; the only restriction is for concealed carry.

I'm miffed if I know what they mean by constant companion.

BUT the reference is still Wikipedia.

Sorry, New Brunswick. I managed to find an answer on these very forums by rewording my Google search. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/684265-Canadian-knife-law-specifics Seems it is indeed legal for me to carry this knife, just not for self-defense purposes against humans (as it is then considered a "weapon"). Granted, I don't ever intend to use it as such, however if it's a life or death situation, it's nice knowing it's there. On top of that, I work overnights so I come across wild animals quite frequently while walking and in a pinch it would be useful there as well. Really wish Canada wasn't so "strict" on their laws in these cases, however it does help in the long run. Thanks anyway!

I'm in Quebec, and from what I understand, everything is legal except for autos, gravity knives and balisongs/butterfly knives. Also if you bought it at Wal-Mart then I'm sure it's legal.

Thanks everybody! I'll be sure to refer to the knife as a tool and not a weapon if ever questioned about it. Because let's face it, it's only a weapon if you use it as such. And from all the research and your help, it seems carrying it is perfectly fine.

No problem at all with this design; even the automatic/assisted openers are OK, because the definition of a "switchblade" in the Criminal Code specifies "opened with a button or switch on the HANDLE". That means that things like the Kershaw Leek/Blur/etc. are fine, since they're opened by pushing a stud on the blade, not with a button on the handle. When they wrote this BS, there weren't any knives that opened this way, otherwise I'm sure they would have included them too. The "Constant Companion" was a push-dagger-style knife built into a belt buckle, and that was what they were most worried about at the time, so they just wrote the law as banning any of that particular type.

What it means by "Constant Companions" are blades that are belt buckles or the sort, they are not clearly a blade so Canada does not like them. Yours looks fine though, not even close to a "Constant Companion".
