Is this knife legal to EDC in Louisiana?

I'm thinking of ordering a fox 599 karambit which can be deployed by hitting the flipper or by using the "Emerson wave" feature which is a hook that catches your pants pocket and deploys when you pull it out. This Louisiana knife law isn't very clear to me:" The manufacture, ownership, possession, custody or use of any switchblade knife, spring knife or other knife or similar instrument having a blade which may be automatically unfolded or extended from a handle by the manipulation of a button, switch, latch or similar contrivance."

There isn't any springs in the karambit but it can be unfolded by pushing the flipper which could be considered as a button I guess, anyone have any idea if I could legally carry this knife?

Flippers and thumbstuds involve directly pushing the blade, vs. a button on the handle or something like that, so do not . The karambit you described is perfectly legal in most states, even if it had assisted opening. Which it doesn't, so you're even more in the clear. Flippers are part of the blade, so do not count as a button at all.

My advice, don't waste your $ on a 599.

I did some research on the Louisiana knife laws for you. The only case that I could find of an arrest for carrying a lockblade folding knife was the State v. Plase J. Ordon case, which involved a convicted felon who was carrying a 4" lockblade folding knife completely concealed in his rear trouser pocket when he was searched by police for being near a group of people who were using drugs. Other than that, if you have no record, a manually-opening lock-blade folder should be good to go in that state.
