This is the other side of the knucks...this soldier who I have identified tapped his initials and serial number into the brass! Does thks answer my initial question? Thank you fine gentlemen for your insight!
I've owned a few 1918 knuckle knives, the handle looks good although the guard has been ground down on one side which is common for knives used during WWII.
The grind on the blade does look a little funny to me.
