is this legal?

hey guys i want to know if this knife is legal in Sacramento California. it is a six inch fixed blade knife. i think it is a bayonet because of the loop on top. but i dont know. my grandpa gave it to me before he died. so i cant ask him lol. thanks for your help guys

I'm in California also and while you should check into your specific municipality, as far as I know from what I have read it is legal to open carry a fixed blade that size (as long as you're not in a school or airport of something) and illegal to conceal carry it.
 
The photo isn't that great but I don't think it is really an M-4. Looks more like a "surplus parts knife" using some M-4 parts. Doesn't look like it has a mounting latch on the butt.
 
As far as stae law is concerned that knife is legal to carry openly, (not concealed). However Sacramento city or county may have a municipal ordinance regulating the carrying in public or in a vehicle. To own in your own residence is legal everywhere in the state.
