Is this lock rock?

May have to turn volume up a lot. Phones have garbage mics.

I got this knife a month or so ago, I'm going to email Viper right now to ask for a replacement because this is bad. I don't remember it being this bad out of the box, but if it rattles vertically that's not a good sign and it's not fixable, right?

It looks like lock rock to me. I've only tried to fix that kind of lock rock one time and that required me to bend the lock bar to make it stronger. It was a cheapo knife so I didn't care if I messed it up, but I agree with you, send it back to Viper.

Thats blade play. Lock rock is when the lock actually moves vertically while the blade is locked.

Yeah, it does that too. The lock bar slides across the tang of the blade slightly and you can see everything moving when it's locked.

Seems like the liner lock isn’t traveling far enough to lock onto the tang. As was said, that can be adjusted. I had a custom flipper that was rock solid when new but it developed the same condition after some time. The maker adjusted the liner lock and it came back fine. You could see that it wasn’t traveling far enough on the tang due to the tension of the liner lock relaxing some over time.

Do you mean the liner lock is sliding on the lock face to the unlock position?

If that is the case no adjustment will assist.

The lock angle is incorrect and needs to be redone.

Viper does a great job with fit & finish of their knives. Even the liners get a high polish ! But they have lemons slipping out. I would return your knife. It's not right by current standards and even worse by Viper's standards.

I've already emailed them with the warranty request, I'll see what they say.

Here's another video of the lock moving around when pressure is applied.

yeah that aint right. lock shouldn't be moving towards open. same with what rattling of the blade to the lock in your shaking video. that shouldn't happen. send it back. thats a dangerous defective knife.

Return it, there many other options for the same price. TBH I would stay away from the Italian brands i.e. MKM and Viper because they are known for issues beneath all the nice crowned spine and fancy finishes. Also they aren’t known for their heat treatment.
