I had another look at the Handle of the white 124. And I am not sure, that it is made of micarta. There is no texture, and back and belly of the handle have fissures. It more looks like white phenol or other synthetic resin like melamine.
Guys, what do you think?

Best, Haebbie

at this time what is needed to know is:
dates of white micarta use... and
estmated number of 124 knives useing it...
dates of white melamine use.... and
estmated number of 124 knives useing it...
and year date or estmated date / time frame of your knife..

i know the information is out there i jest do not know were to look for it ..
ok you guys out there that fall in to the :
with out ~ data it is jest a WAG ( wild -ss guess ) ...
lets dig for that data!!

Yes Herbert, that is micarta! For one the Corian, a countertop material, stays very white and smooth. Another account is some handgun grip manufacturers have discontinued using white micarta for the exact same reason your first picture shows- fissures. The material will not serarate or lose any strength from these tiny checks (or lines) but some customers don't like the looks of them and return the grips as somehow defective. I personally think this version of micarta does resemble elephant ivory with its yellowing and texture and the checking! I hunt high and low to find paper micarta for my shootin' irons and try hard to be patient for them to age to a shade of pale yellow and get the little checks (lines-fissures) just like your 124 MICARTA!
In addition, as Joe has told us, the micarta 124 were produced in 1990. Early in the year or late, who knows? Your blade is marked with the V date stamp making it a 1989 produced blade. If the white micarta series ran through the line in real early 1990 some of the first blades may have been last years ('89) hold-outs so they were mirror-polished and given the white treatment. At any rate I sure do like your old yellowed up 124! Smile my friend! You got the real deal...IMHO!

Sorry Folks. The word is NOT serarate in the fourth sentence/ third line down. I meant S E P E R A T E. Please accept my humble apologies for my short-comings and any inconveniences this may cause you or your posterity.

Now you tell me about a decoder ring! I spent a little time trying to gather my breath after that enlightenment. Personally Dave, I always look forward to the challenge of cipherin' out your messages unassisted. Thanks for overlooking my minor typing indiscretion and wh4f pointed out to me, this morning, that there is some form of edit function in some little box somewhere.
Seriously Dave, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Karen and I hope with you, and for you. Keep your spirits up and keep swinging-
