I recently bought a new CQC-7BW. The blade is very tight and doesn't open nearly as easily as my older CQC-7B. Is this usually something that comes with opening and closing it many times or should it be lubricated? Thanks.

Benjamin, loosening the pivot is usually the care, but I had a CQC7 that was very tight even after loosening the pivot. I called Emerson, and they instructed me to send it back to them for inspection. Emerson ended up sending me a brand new knife that was perfect, and I was very happy. Emerson has excellent customer service and an excellent warranty. Big D1

Loosening the pivot screw does make the knife open easier. Beware though! If you get the pivot screw real loose and knife is carried in the pocket in the tip up position, it might start to open up inside your pocket. I had this happen a couple of times especially wearing loose fitting shorts etc. Sliced a hole right through my pocket and the knife fell out on the ground!:D

I had a waved CQC-7 that was quite tight. All that was required was to wave the heck out of it about 100 times, add some lube, and viola, silky-smooth action! :D

Before sending it anywhere.., I'd certainly try some Militec-1 on it. I've probably smoothed out 125 knives using it.., and it's also pretty simple, and this lubricant is about $6.00 for enough to last you a loooooong time!!

Just heat the pivot area with a hair dryer.., and put a drop on each side of the pivot so it flows down into the effected "sticky" area. Militec-1 molecularly bonds with the steel and leaves no dust or dirt adhering residue -awesome stuff-! Just open and close the knife several times to make sure the lubricant is hitting home.., and let it sit overnight. Remove any excess simply by wiping it off if visible, and you're all set.

This lubricant is the favorite of all the Balisong guys simply because the pivot areas are so important to have an optimally smooth operating "swinger". If you repeat this a few times (3-4).., you will have the smoothest folder in your neighborhood ;)
