Is this normal for a ZT 0300?

Picked this up today and noticed that the blade is not centered between the scales. In fact, it is very very close to the liner/G10 side, almost close enough to hit it.

Thoughts/ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Option 1:

Tighten down all body screws nice and snug and then adjust pivot until it's centered. If the pivot is already good tension, then this won't work because the pivot will be too tight to make it centered.

Option 2.

Take the open knife, serial-number side up and put the blade between drawers or between the bottom of a door and a carpeted floor (have to reverse knife orientation), and make a prying motion DOWN (for drawers) or UP (ZT-logo side up for bottom of door/carpet-floor). Apply medium pressure for a brief moment and then release and repeat until fixed--you do NOT want to break your drawers / door / blade.

Option 3.

Loosen all of the body screws, re-fit them, and then hold the blade center when tightening them.

Usually it's a pivot-tightening issue or a scale-adjustment issue (body screws) and the prying method loosens everything in the scale-fit so that the blade magically moves to the side.

If none of the above works, you can send it in, but I've always been able to center my blades this way.

my 0301 looks just like the bottom pic, its about 2 1/2 months old now
didn't need to tighten or loosen anything, probably never will

Tighten pivot and see if it'll correct itself. If not then may I ask if this was purchased new or traded? Has the lockbar been fiddled (bent more) before? If not then you can send it to kershaw to remedy this.

I am unsure about the earlier prying suggestion, I'm
Uneasy about it. Not doubting it'll work but it should not require a customer to do this. Send it to Kershaw if all that's left is the prying option.

Hope this helps :)

Mine seems to be that way as well. However, in all my use I never noticed any scratches on the blade or the liner, so I would assume the two don't touch each other:D during normal use.

It's new, bought from a dealer close to me today. Never been disassembled, toyed with, or otherwise.

Good. I got a second hand which was and needed fiddling. Wouldn't have fiddled with it but sending it back to Kershaw for a tune-up is a no go for me (see where I live :)).

Good luck in fixing it. But I still have reservations on the prying method. But if it works I'll take note of that.

sometimes you will get a knife that isnt perfectly centered. unless its actually preventing you from opening the knife or using it normally i wouldn't really worry about it.

I've taken apart and reassembled my 301 several times and the blade is never centered after reassembly until I adjust the pivot. Even if the blade already locks up soild as is you can still probably tweak the pivot a bit to get it centered.

I've loosened and tightened the 3/8 nut in attempt to adjust the blade position. It didn't work. I'm going to call ZT today (if they're even open) and talk with them about it. Seems like an awful lot of money for a blade that has issues...

They're not open, this'll have to wait till Monday.

Blades can easily "swing over" during shipment and just by sitting in the box. It's all of the parts setting into place. You should still attempt to adjust it using the body screws if you don't like the "pry" method. That way it'll save you a trip to the PO and the wait time.

I loosened the body screws and then the pivot, moved the blade over, and retightened them. The blade sits much better now, and I'm satisfied with it. ;) Now to get just the proper amount of tightness on the pivot to get that satisfying "thwack" when the flipper is used. Granted there is a certain amount of "breaking in" to do, but I just can't seem to get it where the 3/8 nut is tight enought to not be rotated by hand and the flipper works well...

Another day, another obsession, lol. :D
