Is this normal for a ZT 0560?

I recently purchased a ZT 0560, and the distance between the lock bar and the titanium handle seems a little wide when compared to my other ZTs.

The serial number is 0104, so maybe this was a thing with earlier 0560s?

they cut the early ones with different equipment from the new ones so the older ones have a bigger gap... same with the earlier 0550/0551s

I just don't like how wide the gap is. It seems like it would make the frame lock weaker. It also has a very different feel when the knife locks up, compared to my 0301 and my 0550 which feel like bank vaults when they lock open.

Send it back to the vendor and see if they have one which is laser cut.

Otherwise talk to Kershaw and see what they can do.

I thought it was the other way around? Lasers were used initially and then they used the wire edm tech to create a more narrow lockbar cutout. IIRC the first kershaw to use this tech was the Ti Speedform, then the Tilt, then the newer 0560s and 0550s? Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Think of it this way, yours is lighter in pocket than mine! :p

If all else fails, put it in the trade forum and see if you can trade for a newer cutout one.

Yea, the first run were not cut using wire EDM. I forget what method they were using but they switched to wire EDM further down the production line.

Did you buy it from a vendor..or second hand? If second hand just pay more attention to what you're buying next time.. This is why I ask for like a million pics so I know I'm going to like what I'm getting. I also doubt anything will go wrong as there is nothing wrong with the design of it just upgraded the equipment used. Looks just like the Hinderers it was designed after

As time goes by, knives can go through changes. You'll see minor tweaks as the generations come and go. Some are for esthetics, others improve efficiencies on the factory floor, others assist in performance.
The lockbar cutout change was for esthetics. There are no performance differences, and certainly were no issues with the either versions.
Hope that helps.

I actually prefer the wider cutout, it seems easier to manipulate the lockbar that way.

At least the lock bar disengages very easily, there's no bladeplay, and it flips as smooth as butter.

I should be happy with what I got, especially for the price I paid for it.
