is this normal on a para lock?

hi... so i've had other knives with liner locks but have no experience with a compression lock. just wanted to ask you guys if this wear is normal on the para.

what seems to be happening is the compression lock's face is jagged and it is eating into the meat of the blade every time it locks. the result is this bare scratchy surface that binds each time it locks.

the binding is not a concern of mine. i dont mind giving it a little bit more thumb in order to open it. to me that just equates to a stronger lockup. but i am worried about rust and further erosion/eating away of the blade. I was thinking about just slapping on a little bit of gunkote and calling it a day. but i realized that if the lock is in fact eating the meat of the blade away the rust issue will just come back.

am i just being a noob here? is this normal? or is this something to contact spyderco about?

i've highlighted the area i am referring to. i wish i could've had a closer shot but i dont have a macro :/

That does not seem right. I carried a Vesuvius with a compression lock for almost 8 years and I do not remember seeing that on the blade. Can you get a picture of the lock when the blade is extended?

If anything, the vanadium carbides in the S30V steel of the blade should be wearing away the lockbar rather than the other way around. Send it in and have it checked out.

Is it just me or is this a photo of the portion of the tang that hits the stop and not the locking interface? BTW the locking interface is the one with the slight angle on it and if you have it dirty enough(like mine:o) you can see where the compression lock makes contact.

I agree with jimbo, looks like the knife is closed, and the blurry pic is no help. The lock interface would be on the other side of the knife when the blade is closed.

the knife is halfway closed/opened so i could get a better pic. but you are looking at a flat pic of the locking interface.

If the blade is halfway open, the angled line you are seeing is not on the lockface, it is on the stop face. The lockbar should not even touch the part of the blade that has that line on it. If it is rubbing on that surface, the lockbar is too long and needs to be filed down.

so i just got done corresponding with spyderco's customer service and i am sending it in
