hey guys, i just picked up the exclusive foliage green damascus endura from KC and compared to my only other endura the f&f is just a little off.

I'm just wondering if these things are normal with these blades, or if i got a "bad one" i know they are cosmetic only and really doesn't bother me, unless i just got unlucky with this one.
things to note in pics
-jimping down to the back lock
-choil area
-the core and side widths

here are some pics, anyone else pick one of these up recently?

Thank you for your time.

The core is REALLY off. This will bother me for the rest of me having it.

I would file a complaint - if I were to spend that amount of cash I would want the knife to be perfect.

The lamination line is off center but without pics of the blade it is hard to say if it is off too much. Can we see pics of the blade? Does the Damascus go down into the edge?

I just ordered one yesterday. If mine looks like that I would be upset and want a replacement.
The core is lopsided and the lockup sits too deep.

The core of mine is off center like that. Too dark for a good photo atm, but it looks like the OPs. My lock bar isn't deep like that, though. It's flush with the spine/tang.

Is the core being off center a functional thing or an aesthetic thing?

^ Those are VERY even lamination lines. I would be happy with that even if it looks off on the spine.

As far as performance goes it will only really effect anything if the Damascus goes down into the edge. As long as the edge itself is vg10 then it will perform fine.

 Thankyou, sir. *tips hat*

Wow interesting topic here. To me there are two schools of thought on this. One is 'it had better be just right' the other is ' it's not hand made, but it has hand made character'. If it were mine, and I planned on using it as an edc, the core not being centered would not bother me. Now the lock up would concern me. I would have to 'beat on it a bit' before I trusted it. Not being perfect just means I would not have to baby it. Now if I were putting it in a drawer, I would send it back. That lock up issue really hurts resale. Functionally the blade should be fine so using it should not be an issue. Now is this normal? Not from my experience. I have had two caly 3's with the zdp 420 lamination and both were exquisite. But that is all I can attest to. What ever you decide, good luck with it.

Honestly for an exclusive using damascus I probably wouldn't accept that unless you want it to be an everyday beater. If I had any desire to pass it down or sell it or simply keep it as a collectable, I'd return it and ask them to find one without that problem. The vendor you bought it from may very likely just repackage it and sell it to another buyer over and over again until someone accepts it. Don't worry about it. Someone will accept it or they'll return it to spyderco (unlikely). It doesn't have to be you.

On the other hand, you didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. There's only so much you can get perfect if you're trying to keep prices way down.
