About three weeks ago, I sent in my old Rescue (93mm) in to be reground as I destroyed the spyderedge by using it to cut off what I thought was rubber gasket under a buddy's truck. What it turned out to be was a steel reinforced rubber band that destroyed the edge. After calling Mike at SPyderco, he told me to just send it in and they would re-edge it for me. SO I enclised my check and the knife and sent it off. Then, on this past monday, I got something from Colorado. I thought cool, my knife is back in time for my vacation, but to my surprise, it was not my knife. It is a brand new 93mm Rescue. The enclosed letter said something about faulty materials going to the R&D for review but I stated in the letter I sent with the original knife that I was at fault and I wanted to just have it repaired. Now, I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but is this common for Spyderco? I just am in awe of the customer service I have recieved from them.

Sal, if this is wrong, please let me know how I return the knife to you to get my old one back. BUT, if this is the way its got to be then I understand;) ;)

Thank you Spyderco for your service and your product.

Hi Garrett. Mike must have thought there was something wrong with it that might make it unsafe to use. Maybe he didn't like the way the lock was holding or whatever.

You'll like the new one better. You'll probably consider Spyderco in a future purchase and your good thoughts grow good Karma. you might call it "An investment in the customer".

Spyderco customer service and warranty & repair have no rivals in the knife industry, Mike has went way above and beyond the call of duty many times for me. Ron

I got the same treatment once. I sent in my old abused and rusted CoPilot and a couple weeks later I received a notice that there was a manufacturer's defect, and I got a notice back saying I had a credit at Spyderco for $70!! I liked my CoPilot, but $70 towards any new Spyderco I could think of was an offer I couldn't refuse. Spyderco continues to be my favorite knife company for reasons like these.:)

I have had good luck with knife warranties. Every company I've dealt with has been quite helpful. Even among the good, Camillus has been exceptional. And Spyderco is simply in a class all by itself. Nobody goes further to take care of their customers.

Sal Glesser's presence here tells you a lot about his company's attitude toward its public. They not only listen to us (which would drive most people crazy) but they actively solicit our input.

Sal talks about doing the right thing even when nobody is watching. I truly believe that Spyderco tries to do that. That integrity comes through in the performance of their products and the quality of their service.

I sent in a knife I messed up at work, pretty much melted the blade to a nub cutting battery cables on a wrecked car, Spyderco fixed her and sent back good as new, you just cant beat thier knives and service.

Well said.

I am coming to realize that all I have ever suspected about Spyderco is true. I have always known them to be the best knife maker on the market and I have been telling everyone about what has happened to me.

thanks for the info,

Garrett
