is this oak or pine?

i was hoping someone here could tell me if this old barn wood is oak or pine. also, would one do well to use this for knife handles? there is also some wormy chestnut i believe.

Offhand I'd say pine; oak is seldom so knotty. Easy to compare with a piece of hardware-store lumber....Oak is much heavier.
