I am the seller of this knife and was contacted today by a potential buyer who withdrew his bid on an auction site because he feared it is a counterfeit. The person who sold me the knife is reputable and said it came from his collection. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that's a counterfeit. I'd like to know what makes the Buyer think that it is.

Thanks guys. I contacted the other person. I told him there was no doubt in my mind it is authentic.

That's appears to be a legit Kobun to me. I never seen a counterfeit Kobun. The sheath is without a doubt legit.

The markings, the grind lines, the handle, the sheath - everything about that knife looks legit. Fakes pretty much always give themselves away with one tiny detail or another.

I knew this forum would be the right place to get helpful info. This gives me a little piece of mind although just holding the knife I could tell it was quality. Again, thanks to those who posted.

Hey guys, new here, but been on the CS forum since the beginning. That Oyabun looks 100% legit to me.

Not sure if they came in different steels, but my known legit one has a much more matte finish. Certainly not shiny.

I believe all the ones made in Japan were AUS8 and shiny, and the ones made in Tawain were 420 and matte. There were also Carbon V ones with black coating.
