am I loosing my mind. I have three Grip's, one of each of the blade profiles, and I swear the, what I call, spear point is a harder steel. I have stropped all three and this one just seems much harder to polish the edge. I am not complaining just asking if anyone else has ever encountered something similar to this. I guess the next question would be would the shape of the blade have anything to do with what I think I am seeing? The first two are great, but this one just seem like an overachiever.
Thanks, Frank.

Well they make griptilians in like 5 or 6 different types of steel. What type is each of them. If you have 2 154cm and a D2 or something, it would certainly explain why one is harder.

Even if they are in fact the same steel, hardened to the same RC, the edge angle could be different which effects edge retention.

They are all 154cm so that is a constant but the angle is a good explanation. Not trying to make this a big deal, I was wondering if anyone else had come across this or thought they had.
Thanks, Frank.

If by spear point you mean the modified drop point, then it is a bit thicker at the edge than the hollow ground 550, so it will take a bit more to get it sharp.

I looked it up on the web site and yes, that is what I meant. That and you explanation make it clear. Thank you.
Frank.
