Hey all,

This is my first post and i hope I am not putting this in the wrong place.
I am looking at getting my first "serious" knife and I like the Cold Steel Trailmaster in Carbon V. The only thing that I don't like is the handle. Is there a way that I can have a different handle put on the blade? A handle like the one that is on the Randall #15 with the finger grips would be something like I am talking about. Would the cost to do it be so much that I could go ahead and get a semi-custom in the same style?
Thanks for the help and advice. Please don't get mad if this is in the wrong place, I thought that this forum was for people to ask questions of Knife makers and get advice and help.

Thanks Again.

First off, welcome to BladeForums! The answer to your question is yes. The only challenge would be finding someone who would want to make the modification or learning to do it yourself.

You might find that by the time you buy a Cold Steel Trailmaster, get the replacement materials, and pay someone to do it or get supplies/tools to do it yourself, you could buy a custom knife that has everything you want.

Modifying knives can be fun and rewarding but it also can be more trouble then it is worth.

Allot of the companies will make up custom versions of there knives for a slightly higher price,You could cotact them and see if they offer this service or have someone that they know that will do it for you.
Having a knife customized will usually cost allot more than the knife is worth,Find yourself a maker that works in the same steel and one that you like there work and see what they would charge to make one similar to the production but with your specifications on the Blade and handle,You will come out money ahead and then the knife will still hold its value.

Hey Guys..

Have to agree with Andrew on this one...

In my opinion for the price you'd pay,,not to mention that a Trailmonster,,Ummm Trailmaster probably has a stick tang,,or at least now has a hidden tang,,wrapping Micarta or G-10 around that would be a pain...

For probably close to the same price,,maybe a bit more,, you could move up into a Busse Battle Mistress or Steel Heart and have a blade that will chop circles around the Trailmaster all day long...

A better blade any day of the week...Albeit it won't have the finger grooves you want...

IMHO finger grooves on a large knife like that isn't too good of an idea in the first place..They will cause your hand serious fatigue in the long run after some heavy work...

Look into the Busse line up,,they may have something you are interested in...

Customizing a blade like that is a big job, however you look at it...
