The pictures are real. The question is what story you got with them?
The email story about the bear attacking the guy and him stopping a charge has been going around for a long time. Here's a link to the actual story:

A zoo in NJ used to have a brown bear which IIRC was the largest in captivity.It weighed 2000 pounds !! It was enormous and it's claws were like bananas. I don't know the record wild brown but the best food source coastal bears would have to reach 1200 lbs at least !!

My dad used to go mine gold in Alaska --way out in the boonies. He would be there a few weeks at a time. He says there were A LOT of bear attacks---not so much on them or their camp (which would be populated by a lot of guys during the 'season'), but on Eskimos who lived even further out and maybe didn't run generators at night and stuff.

In the course of a few weeks there would be multiple emergency cases come through their camp on their way to medical care. Pretty bad maulings too---missing limbs and so forth.

It seems the only time I hear about maulings on the news is when some crazy bear petters get eaten on tape.

His name was Goliath. He lived at a place called Space Farms. (Kinda like a small petting zoo.) He died a few years ago, Hw was HUGE!! Cool that you know of him Mete.
