Is this real?

I don't know what the 300 is. It is not the Rockwell C hardness.

The theoretical max of the Rockwell C scale is 100. IIRC the max anything is ever rated at is ~70. (The theory goes to 100, but the technique used to get actual numbers can't go that high.)

Brinell hardness of 300 would be about 45 HRc.Hard to tell if it's Brinell or a typo.

It doesn't say what steels are used to make that damascus, which is not unusual, of course. Actually, it says "Steel/Hardness 300". Could they mean 300 series steels? :D

Typo of what, though? 30HRC is softer than even annealed 1050. 300 layers, maybe? Shouldn't be possible, though- most damascus layers I've seen are in powers of 2, with closest to 300 being 256 or 512.

I love it when I'm not alone in my evil thinking. Sure, I'll pay $3,999 for a piece of structural metal. I could always have it made into watch cases.

Oh okay I guess we havent solved what they mean by the number 300. But thanks knarfeng for giving me help on the rockwell scale.

Oh and esav no worries. Im not looking at buying,

I sharpened a puma folder for my old boss and it had something like 116RC on the blade. Dunno if that was a real hardness count, but it was a PITA to sharpen. I got it eventually tho.

Had to have been the model or serial number, as I've owned a few Pumas and have never seen a Rockwell hardness engraved on any of them (or any knife for that matter). BTW, all of my Pumas (all older ones) have been a PITA to sharpen as well.

My Extrema Ratio Nemesis and MPC folders both have 58 HRC on the left side of the blade in a large font.
