Is this really true?

It's been done a few different ways. I've heard of guys dipping the handle in hydronic fluid, and thrusting a bk9 into a barn door.

I've heard of the tac tool being used to cut open car doors, but wow stabbing full force with no guard or gloves and a greasy hand!?!? Damn. I love Becker handles even more now. Anyone have a video of this stuff? It would put those cold steel videos to shame. I always wondered about the name "combat Bowie" on a blade with no guard, but I guess this explains it. My cousin wants to take me pig sticking next year for my 1st time and I was contemplating how the bk9 or 7 would hold up. Anyone have a story they can share with me about stabbing with a Becker? My cuz uses a gerber mark 2 with a "cheater bar" handle extension so the guard acts more like a blade stop To prevent over penetration.

You wouldn't want to stab pig with a BK9, too broad. Get something more purpose fitting. Be smart, be humane

Most people shoot the pigs with a rifle, or a bow then finish it off with a knife IF NEEDED. Camilus made a boar hunting version of the bk9 once. It had a sharpened swedge. Guys take Beckers hunting all the time. They work. Just do a quick search.

Exactly my thoughts, you basically reinforced my concern and I'm glad you commented. I appreciate the advice. My main worry was botching it on the first thrust. being humane is my #2 concern (#1 concern is getting gored in the crotch).

Can anyone recommend a decent blade, that I can still use for utility tasks later? I don't want to drop 150$ on a blade that I'll only use once. I can always use my cousins and save the money if such a knife doesn't exist.

He does it a little backwards. The dogs bring down the boar then he sticks it, with a pistol on stand by just in case. He said there's a 70% chance that we won't even get one, but hey it's all about the hunt not the kill. I personally don't enjoy medium/large game nearly as small much as small critters like squirrels, rabbits, or fishing. I might change my perspective though if we get some jowel bacon on the cast iron.

I didn't mean to get off topic, but I did with the pig stickin.

Anyone hear about stabbing a 55 gal drum with a Becker & oily hands? Or stabbing anything really? I could see the bk5, 15, and 7 in this role but the 9 doesn't seem too stabby to me. I've cut miles of trail with mine, but never used it to stab anything. I always wondered what's up with the Bowie swedge on a knife that seems designed to chop and baton.

Don't get me wrong, I love the clip point, I actually wish it was more pronounced like the 7, but I'm still curious if anyone uses it for anything other than notching/drilling.

What do you guys use the clip point for, that a drop point couldn't handle?

Ive stabbed trees and an old foam top surfboard quite a bit. It doesn't go super deep but it stabs. Im sure it would stab through a pig, especially with some force
and adrenaline flowing. I put half the knife through the surfboard with a strong stab.

BK9 HH edition :D

course, as a plug, Steve Johnson KaBar "bacon baker" :D

Good call man. I'd love one of those. There's no doubt it would take care of business.

Hell, I might just have to sharpen the swedge on my bk9 and buy a new one for wood processing. I've always loved the idea of a razor clip point, but I've never once had a need for it. I guess there's a little bit of Rambo in all of us.

I'm not sure if I'll make it down to his property in time for the hunt, but if I do, would it be appropriate to post some pics of my first pig kill? I've never had to dispatch an animal with a blade before, (other than fish) so it will be kind of a big deal for me. I won't post it if it offends anyone (I'm still learning the rules here).

Thanks for the advice guys, I knew I came to the right place when I found out there was a Becker forum.

I've just always been a wuss about stabbing stuff since I saw my buddy try to stab open an AC wooden crate with a dirk like flea market dagger. Sliced his palm, pinky, and ring finger really deep. I was there and saw the damage a little 4" blade can do in the hands of an idiot (I'm an idiot too, but at least I respect tools after 10 years in the construction framing industry).

30 something stitches and had to walk around with his hand elevated for a few days. It was really gnarly.

But I trust becker handles, especially after hearing these stories.

Me too but to be honest, I'm too afraid to stab at anything my 15, I don't feel like I have a good grip on the handle as is

I'll agree with that somewhat. I love the profile of the handles, but find them a touch thin (easily fixed by handle scales). The issue though is that the tweeners don't have the integrated forward guard like the big Beckers do, so I wouldn't actually feel comfortable stabbing anything with force with any tweener Becker.

And again, to be fair here, I've heard too many horror stories of stabbing stuff and slipping onto the blade to think about stabbing stuff without full guards, and maybe a lanyard, so I may just be scared of the idea of stabbing (good thing my normal usage doesn't require that :)).

I know what you mean, I still have a little doubt with the full size Becker handles too. I feel like in a reverse grip that the integrated "groove guard" isn't substantial enough to put full force behind. I'll probably never have a need to really stab anything with full force (maybe ice-picking a new bag of ice haha), I was just curious to hear of anyone else stabbing crap with a bk.

There are actually a lot of historical stabbing knives with no guard whatsoever, so I guess it all just depends.
