Is this rust where the thumbstuds meet the blade? I work in a shop in Houston so its really humid and i sweat all day every day and this knife has been in my pocket the whole time since the third of last month. Has anyone else experienced this? I just noticed it and im not sure if you can see it very well in the pics because im posting from my cell right now. Im hoping its not rust but i know what rust looks like and it sure looks like it is. The weird thing is that its only on the lockbar side and the non lockbar side is the part that touches my sweaty thigh all day. I might try to clean it up without tearing the knife down later tonight. Im hoping its not rust. Other than this, the knife is amazing. Iv just never had another knife rust on me.

I can't tell from the size of the pics, but I get rust in those spots. I use a metal dental pick to scrape it out, but any metal pick would work if it bothers you.

I guess it doesnt bother me too much. Im a believer that wear ads character. Just never thought a 400 dollar knife would start rusting in a month. Id have the same concern with any of my 200 dollar knives also. Guess i can live with it.

It's rust alright. S30/35VN is "corrosion resistant" - not rust proof. There's no cure for it, and it is usually very minor when it does corrode.

If it spends a lot of time in your wet-salty-sweaty pocket, a little lightweight oil, like gun oil, would be a good rust preventative once in a while.

Or, when you come home, just rinse it off with clean water and dry to remove the salts of your labor.

Ah, corrosion resistant, not proof. That mkes sense. I spray it off with water every few days and then hit it with shop air to dry it off. I might do this more often or give these areas a bit more attention. Heres a couple cropped photos. Thanks for the replies guys. Im really lovin this knife.

No doubt that's one awesome knife! I'm hoping to add one to my collection before too long.

That kind of stuff can be dealt with easy enough, just use it for the work horse it is!

I treat my EDC knife just like my EDC handgun. Everything gets a light coat of CLP and often. Doesn't matter if it's a $5k pistol or a $20 knife; if you carry it everyday and routinely subject it to the elements, then the tool will require more frequent attention/maintenance. On a side note: Nice Zaan Speed!

May want to hit those areas with some good penetrating oil, then after it's cleaned up some MiliTec 1 (with heat after the application). That should seal it up well and protect it for you.

I'm a sweaty foreigner that lives in Taiwan, I get a rust rash on my nearly any knife after a long day training or walking the dog. It's worth getting some Tuf-Glide or something on those low traffic areas to help keep the rust off.

Might help if you oiled your blade after cleaning.

I use it quite a bit so i never really thought to oil any of my blades. I guess that part of the knife could use some oil though. I also eat lunch with it every day. Id hate to have to oil a blade at least twice every day.

Fellow BladeForum member recommended recently to me Ballistol. It cleans and protects against rust and in Europe is considered food safe. So cutting your lunch shouldn't be a problem. It is great stuff.

Use mineral oil (completely food safe) and just wipe it down with a cloth if it gets dirty. Not sure why you have to wash and re-oil your blade twice a day.

Sits in sweaty pocket every day, when used or otherwise dirty, wash in water and blow dry. These living conditions call for a film of oil on your SS parts. I agree with everyone above. Find your choice of rust protection/lube and give your knife a little treat. It'll make you both a lot happier! :)

"I" would do as ohen above posted and apply some penetrating stuff like Corrosion-X or WD to a toothbrush and work it into any portion that's being affected and let it set overnight or a few hrs.

I don't agree with his Militec-1 suggestion. Being a former Militec-1 flag waver myself, I've seen it shot down bad in a couple of rust prevention tests. Militec-1 is a lubricant first and maybe a touch of rust prevention. I only use it on pivots.

I think some of the biggest players are shown here: http://www.6mmbr.com/corrosiontest.html

Well i wash with water and dry with shirt after lunch. Then if i wash and dry again after work that woukd make it twice id have to re il it right? Or is it just not that serious?

Iv never had rust on anything besides 1095 blades but i guess i can baby this knife and clean it and oil it.

I would just wipe the knife off after lunch and wipe after work no water. I also suggest oiling once a week or so.

Try using FrogLube on it. I would degrease the blade as best I could, heat it up with a hair dryer and apply the FrogLube. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe off the excess. Then use it regularly as a lube.

FrogLube is a non-toxic CLP, cleaner, lubricant and preventative. I have just started using in on my firearms and some of my knives. It has a nice wintermint smell also.

My S30V Sebenza gets washed regularly and I have never had any signs of rust. It also stays in my sweaty pocket all the time.

I work at Toyota so i just grabbed a can of Toyota silicon(very thin stuff) and gave it a couple squirts. We'll see how it does. I tried to squirt some into the pivot area and let it seep in there. Then i hit it with a little bit of air and wiped it down. It opens a little smoother now too. Time will tell.
