I'm not the best sharpener in the world but with my edge pro , I can get mirror polished hair whittling edges, well I was youtubing the other day and came across this... It's called the handy sharp, My initial thoughts are its a gimmick and there is no way it can do what the inventor says, I watched a couple more videos of people buying these sharpeners and shaving their faces with the knife afterwards, heres the first video I saw. hope I can post it up right, but have any of you every tried this sharpener? If so how did it perform?

I don't go for gimmick sharpeners myself. Much prefer to keep my fine/ultra-fine diafold in my hip pocket all the time. It's worked for me for many years now. No need for these "miracle" hones.

That was my thoughts on this sharpener as well, especially since it has a pull through slot for extra dull knives further down the handle...

It looks like a freehand carbide scraper. They work, especially if you know how to use it. I wouldn't consider it particularly gimmicky, as these kinds of sharpeners have been popular for decades. But not with knife nuts, because they tend to be crude, brute force devices which leave edges fairly unrefined.

The trick I see in that video is that knife was probably already sharp before ever using the device on it. So, at the most, he was steeling the edge. It's entirely possible what he did with the device never even scraped any bit of the edge away at all.

it will sharpen, but it will be toothy edge, not a honed sharp.

his knife was sharp before,so gimmicky.

:jerkit::jerkit:Just a couple quick swipes with this, doesn't even have to be the right angle and wah lah

You got a super sharp knife....

Assuming it's carbide, it's no different than any other pocket hone when used freehand (as demo'd in the video).

The pull-through, on the other hand, will damage an edge like any other of the same variety. Nothing about the material it's made of (carbide), but the way it pinches & rips the steel between the opposing scraper inserts.

Nothing special. It's a typical carbide scraper 'V' sharpener, with a tiny little bit of 'freehand' pocket hone built in.

I'm sure that knife was sharpened more extensively before the miniscule touching up seen in the video.

I know right , I spend hours on my edge pro and am constantly trying to refine my technique and then this comes along geese had I known I could saved a couple hundred bucks and just bought this thing....

He was slicing that paper, and careful to stop when it started to tear. That is the best you could hope for with a carbide scraper.
