Is this SOG a Fake

Hmm... I'd be a little suspicious since you said it's about an inch shorter than your other one. The screw end could have been ground flush, but that wouldn't take off an inch. Hopefully someone here can help you out more.
 
There was never a screw used in the handle on this knife. I had an original #'rd SOG out of what I believe to be the first production run and it had a screw in the butt part of the handle. The SOG Logo and Seki Japan on this knife look the same as the other SOGs I have.

Interesting. I don't have a Desert Dagger, but my brother has one of the last Governments made in Seki, and it still has the screw in the handle. Well, I wish I could help you more. Good luck on finding more information!
 
it is a fake. These have been popping up lately and they are cheap Chinese knock offs. The original will have the screw in the pommel.
 
Ouch. That's unfortunate. I thought of another thing to check for; a soldered cross guard. If it's fake, I'd bet there's a small gap between the guard and the blade.
 
Yes there is. - a small gap between the guard and the blade.

Thanks for the verification - I bought it on an auction site, and have contacted the seller. He is going to take it back and issue me a refund.

Well, sorry to hear about your problem. I guess as long as the seller refunds your money, that's not too bad.
 
I've been seeing a lot of fake sogs and cold steel models at the local flea market here... Not sure where they are coming from but they come in packaging pretty similar to the real thing
