is this southard real or fake?

Thanks, I thought so but wanted to double check does anyone sell carbon fiber scales for the real spyderco southard?

I don't know why people even try to buy knives off eBay. Seriously.
If you can't buy it from a reputable site, just move on with your life.

You should assume every knife on eBay is fake.

I am a person who buys them fairly regularly on eBay and have only ever purchased authentic knives. I guess this means I need to move on with my life :( .

Every time you see trash like this click "Report Item" and post it in the fake Spyderco thread.

The seller might not be aware it is fake. He has a Sebenza that is identified as fake for sale as well. Does not make a lot of sense to list one fake as fake and one as real. But really who knows why are people do what they do.

Same here. The trick is not to be a complete retard and know who you're buying from. For example, a vendor with 45,000 positive feedback, an online website, etc is probably a safe bet.

Yeah if you do your own research, which should only take a few minutes, and you're satisfied that the seller and the item are legit, go for it.
I'm just saying, for the most part, eBay is the only merchant site you're likely to ever visit where you would even run the risk of a knife being fake. Or wildly overpriced. Or in some way not as advertised.

Obviously not everything on eBay is fake. I was exaggerating to make a point.
The Southard may be a little tricky to locate right now, but it can be done with a half hour of googling.
These scammers pray on the fact that some of these models are hard to find. So I would just say, if you're resorting to eBay in the first place, you're already kinda admitting you're desperate.

So I will amend my advice to "Stay off eBay whenever possible. If it's the only possible way to acquire Knife X, use extreme caution and do your homework".

You sure it's fake? People do make custom carbon fiber scales for the Southard. Maybe somebody sold this guy one of those after he put on the after market scales.

Looks fake even with the crappy photos. Looks exactly like the fake one I bought and posted comparison photos of, and the last photo you can see that the lock side has that too-smooth finish to it.

I've been at this long enough to have seen more than one dealer who was 100% reputable and widely respected until the day they closed shop and screwed a bunch of customers over. Same thing has happened with custom makers and sales/trades with private parties. Ever read the "FEEDBACK: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" forum here? Sad fact is, liars, cheats, and thieves can be found everywhere. The "blessing" is that almost all the fake Spydercos you find on eBay are very easy to spot if you know enough about the model you're buying to spot the differences.

As evilgreg said, this southard appears to have a beadblasted Ti lockside. The real ones are stonewashed. So this southard does not appear to be authentic. IMO

Such a tribute to a company that your stuff is so good that the Chinese want to knock it off! Winning!!!

I have a couple of other small details that I noticed, 1. The handle scale where it meets the blade is more rounded instead of the sharper cut on the original. 2. The gimping seems more shallow.
