Is this still a traditional or is it to modern?

I just finished my 10th slipjoint.
Would you call this a traditional or is it to modern?

RWL34 with WW2 rag micarta over G10 liners with peened pins.

Looks traditional to me, but I'm not picky.

Nice choice of materials, the rag micarta is indeed beautiful. I had to look up what RLW34 was. Now I have to look up 'martensitic'. 🤨

I can't say I've seen anything like it historically speaking as far as folders goes, but I don't see anything about it that screams modern or would stand out and it certainly is a good looking knife.

The g10 liners could be a tad borderline to some, but that's about the only thing.

Thnx for the replies everyone.
I was thinking the shape might not be traditional enough, but I'm glad you guys like it!

RWL34 is almost the same as CPM154, wich is used by many makers.
(Tony Bose used CPM154 among othe steels)

The blade is a perfectly traditional sheepsfoot. The handle might be a little less traditionally shaped, but not wildly so. It is a lovely knife.

Beautiful work, Hengelo_77 Hengelo_77 ! The lines flow really nicely, especially the tip of the blade into the butt of the handle when closed. Thanks for sharing

Gorgeous knife. I too thought it was wood and even had to look twice at reading Micarta.
Only two things, just personal preference and trying to be really picky ...
Would like to see the "sheepfoot" more squared up at the tip
Hard to tell but looks to me like a subtle up-sweep of the last third of the blade edge
Not a fan of red G10 on a folder ... I'd prefer black ... if not brass that would match the pins nicely
Weird though, I think red G10 would look fine on a fixed blade

I don't have a problem with it. Traditional enough for this sub forum. Looks like a nice knife. If you get to point you want to sell your work, look into upgrading to a KnifeMaker membership.

What a great job you did with that knife. I can see why you are hesitant of wich category it would sit in, kind of modern in its design and material, but as a slipjoint with pins instead of screws. To me, it would be a more obvious traditional if it had a nail nick. It would change the apperance from a one-hand open/flipper to a traditional, especially when open.
Beautiful knife 👌

It looks a lot like some of the French knives which are accepted as traditional here without question.

I really like the lines on that one, and the handle material is stunning :D:thumbsup:
