Is this the normal out-of-the-box finish of the Spyderco flat grind G10 handle ?

I've just purchased a Spyderco police plain edge (flat grind) G10 handle. We can the grind lines, but that's ok and normally expected.

However when I shine the blade at a certain angle under a light or the sun, the blade looks shiny, but the finish looks speckled...as is a poorly applied coat of transparent varnish had been applied (obviously, there's no varnish on the blade, but it looks like a poorly applied coat of varnish, giving a speckled look to the blade under specific angle).

What's more, I can see two individual streaks of what appears as some sort of discoloration running all the blade on one side of the blade. It doesn't show under bright light or day light, unless you angle the blade at a specific angle.

I'd like to hear from those owning the same type of police model I have. I expect this to be normal, but still I just want to make sure.

Thanks

Difficult to say without photos, but could it be some streaking and speckling in the oil/lubricants on the knife? I think I would be tempted to rub the blade with a oily rag (as you would to remove fingerprints from a show piece) if you have not already.

I've done that, but the streakings remain. I'd most gladely post a pic, but I'm now allowed to.

That's normal in my experience with some VG10 blades. I'll try to post a picture later but my P3 had the same exact thing, as did my Barong.

IIRC it's also been called "watered" and is noted in appearing in certain types of stainless.

Yes, that'd be interesting to see a pic. Thanks for posting a reply.

In my experience, VG-10 is "speckly". Can't speak for the streaks, though. It's probably non-harmful, if a bit unusual.
