Is this the same Dick Atkinson as 'our' Dick Atkinson?

Guys, I scored a Dick Atkinson folder over the weekend. The mark is similar to 'our' Dick Atkinson's, but it says "Atkinson" along the top half of the 'oval'
"Maker" in the middle, and "Decatur, Il" along the bottom of th e'oval'.

Is this 'our' Mr. Atkinson, or someone else?

Known Dick for a while (at least 10 years) and during that time he has been based in the Florida panhandle.

I'll ask him and let you know.

Cool. I was hoping that was the answer! ;) Thnaks Bobby.

Gus, if you do talk to Dick, it's this one. If it is his, I'd love to know a bit of the history of it! :)

BTW,

If you are looking for grips for a 1911 framed pistol, I love what he is doing.
Slapped a set on one of mine a couple of years ago and have been thrilled with them.

Great little score...use it well. I am sure if you would have put up the pic, Bastid could have told you right away this it was one of his...sure looks like his work without even seeing the mark.

I'll put up a pic. when it arrives. :)

I'm off to Egypt tomorrow until the back of next week, so hopefully it'll be waiting for me when I get back. :D

Tell Cairo hello for me. I haven't been in Egypt since I left the Sinai in 88, but it was an interesting experience.

FG,

I have what I assume to be your knife from ebay. (I have/will not open it unless you want me to so I can check it before I send it to you.)

Let me know and I will get it out to you.

Gus

Thanks Gus. :) By all means have a look if you'd like.

Amos, we're not going to Cairo this time. We're in the Sinai - Sharm el Sheikh to be exact. :D
I guess it's changed a lot since your time, very touristy now. We've been staying in the HYatt & now in the Four Seasons, on the coast between the airport & Sharm. I can recommend both resorts. We've had a great time, I've tried scuba diving (which I thouroughly enjoyed), and eaten ourselves silly!

On the whole I like Egypt. Mad, lots of baksheesh, but basically very friendly & hospitable people.

Actually you got a good find there. It is our Dick and it is older than the ones marked Florida. There are several people including myself that would love to have snagged that knife instead of you. You ever go to sell it let me know. If the timing is right I'd be interested in buying it to add to my small Atkinson collection.

Well, it was waiting for me when I got back from holiday.

I'm sad to say that it's a dissapointment. It's a nice knife, very good grinds, very sharp. But....

It has blade play in all axes, closed or open. :C
It looks as though the blade stock is very marginally thinner than the spring.

Gus, if you talk to Dick, would you ask him if it's feasible to send it to him for a tune-up for me? (or if you're willing to send me his details, I'll do it. :) )

Will do, but keep in mind Dick is no longer making knives.

Cheers mate. I suspect that due to the construction he'd decline anyway - I certainly wouldn't like to tackle it! :D

However I'd like to ask.

I hope I didn't come across as greedy in that last post, considering what I paid for the knife! Just disappointed that I can't use it. :(
And to be honest, quite pi***d off with the seller who clearly states no blade wobble in his ad!
