Is this too much for a 60XT?

They were made for only one year, 2003, and their MSRP was $59.95. They are discounting them by $18.00 or so. Value? Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beerholder.

One other thing, what kind of blade steel did they use? It is a bit pricey for me but I did like the design so I might have to get one anyway.
 
...and Taylor Brands is reproing them in CHina, so be sure of what you are getting.

The steel used in the blade is most likely 420HC. I believe that before circa 2000, Schrade+ steel was 440A.
