Is this too much for a knife?

Based on some prices for the Mini CQC-15 you'll find on the internet, there's about a $20 or so premium being tacked on for the Gracie connection. So not completely out-of-line for a knife that's pretty expensive to begin with.

Emerson makes reliable folders, but the fit and finish isn't the best and they're expensive for the materials and build you get. The materials are good, but nothing super fancy. Basically, you're paying mostly for the design, ergos, and tactical connection. If that's your thing it's a good buy, but for a lot of people they aren't a good value. There are quite a few threads here discussing the value of these knives; you can look through those to get a better idea of what you're getting into.

If you love the Gracie family and what they teach...and you want a tactical knife with the Gracie logo...then it's not too much, since it's the only one - no competitor at any other price point.

If you want a quality tactical knife there are a bunch cheaper. I like Emerson's personality and knife designs, will probably get one some day just to have and keep in the house - sans logo

Is it overpriced?

Yes. You can get knives with identical (or superior) steel and handle material for half that price from Hogue, Spyderco, Buck, and many other makers.

Overpriced is a fake/nonexistent term... Overpriced is only if 2 of the EXACT same item, and one is less costly. I literally have a knife arriving this week that costs over 200. Because to me it's worth it and I can afford it cause I know how to properly save and distribute my currency to buy the things I need, and want. So you have to weigh all your options and necessities and find out if it is something you can/ are willing to pay for.
Good luck, -Tim

This answer is the best and most accurate so far.

Lol so I guess if they made a version of this knife that was the same except it used S30V steel instead of 154CM, and they charged a million dollars for one, it wouldn't be overpriced because it's not exactly the same thing?

Sounds about right by his logic. Or they could change the blade steel to pot metal, change the handle to cheap plastic, and jack the price up 1000%, and it still wouldn't be overpriced. After all, "overpriced is a fake/non-existent term".

The Emerson "Gracie" mini 15 is just a blacked out 15 with the Gracie logo. Like it was said above if you have a "need" for the logo then yes $200 is spot on. I have been watching them being flipped for $240 since there were only 21 made at first. With this being the second batch I would say that price is going to drop a bit. You can find a mini 15 used for $100 to new money which is around $175 or so for a blacked out version without the logo. I will say after reading Mr. Emerson's fit and finish thread I had to give his knives a try and I have the bug pretty bad right now. I would say find a user and give it a try, heck if anything you know you can flip it if you don't like it. One of the cool things is I sent them an email and it was answered but Ernie himself, well I thought it was pretty cool at least. There are a lot of knives at that price point and opinions like you know will vary. And to think all this coming from a guy that swore he would never own another liner lock.

Hehehe. Yep, it seems that if somebody is willing to pay for it, then the majority opinion seems to be that it's not "over-priced". :D

Both of you don't know how to read, or just choose not to. EXACT same would be exact same knife, same steel exact copy, that's what exact means. If I had two identical knives, and the base price for it was 100 and say I placed both of these knives into two different vendors, one for 110 and one for 250. The 250 one is "overpriced" because you can get the same thing for less... again the SAME thing for less just like EXACT. Having one made of pot metal and one of 154cm would NOT be the EXACT same.

I love shooting down people after they not only don't read what someone posted, but then reply with a confrontational post, when they have not a god damn idea what they're talking about. and yes overpriced is a nonexistent term, not a nonexistent word. Because terminology is completely different than a dictionary word. Terminology differs and has variants for each individual or group of individuals. So asking HEY is this overpriced?? Well if you can get the exact same thing for less, then yes. But if not... Only the buyer can decide if it is indeed worth it or not.

People need to:

A) Grow the hell up, it's a knife forum.
B) Learn how to %#$&ing read.

Thanks, take care.

Lol! We did read what you wrote. You wrote that two knives have to be exactly the same for one of them to be overpriced. So we gave examples of knives that aren't the same. Therefore, by your logic neither can be overpriced, but obviously the examples we gave are overpriced. Does that make sense to you, or do you still need to learn to read?

Yes. You can get knives with identical (or superior) steel and handle material for half that price from Hogue, Spyderco, Buck, and many other makers.

If your only desire is "better" steel, then yes there are much more affordable knives out that. That does NOT make this knife overpriced, for the same reason a zdp-189 delica existing doesn't make a sebenza overpriced. You are not paying premiums for knives because of materials, your paying for design. Not that this is the right thread to go into this I guess.
