Is this what y'all are talking about on the shoulders? (pic)

I did to the bowie like what I think you all suggested. Is this right? I read most of "How to make knives" last night and the knives they do in the book all are squared shoulders. Just don't see how I can get a tight fitting guard with it like this? Even though I don't have the room to set it up, I bought a 700 bench mill just to slot guards precise. I have many uses for it though. :)
Don't mind the bueatimus plunge, I hope to clean that up after heat treat. :D
My flash isn't working again so the color balance is all messed up.

That's pretty good, but I'd leave out the second step down and make it flow into the rest of the tange. Should be plenty strong as is, but for maximum durability you want your thickest metal where the guard goes, and tapper to the point of the blade and the end of the tange.
