I would guess they dyed the coyote scale black and they ended up with the color you described. Black G10 cannot usually be described as anything but jet black with tiny bits of whitish grey in the machine marks from the glass being cut. If it is a rich dark chocolate that probably means they dyed it. I once purchased a ZT that someone perfectly disassembled and painted the G10 and I couldn't tell until carried it and got some marks on the scales, then I noticed and soaked it in paint stripper.
 
I took a close look at the pictures on ZT website and a video from a reviewer, and the letters/spacing/allignment looks good. I've never handled one, so if the G10 it looks chocolate as you write, maybe someone tried to change the color? You can dye G10, or not?

Edit: Still, i don't see the logic in using a pen to cross out the original info and just write something else on top....i mean come clean....coyote version, dyed black, came out brownish.

you can dye G10 darker than what it used to be.
 
Thanks for the info everyone. I also thought the scale must have been dyed.

What about the titanium scale. Are they really this shiny or do you think it has been polished?

Could be glass beaded or polished.

According to the video it looks as it should. A member who actually owns this model should be more reliable than me though

Yeah I’ve seen them at USAMB too with custom micarta scales, etc. And they do make the 0308TS which comes with a black scale. So if you bought a 0308TS at USA made and it had a custom scale you would have an the extra original black one. Tons of coyote AND black scales out there for the 0308
