Is two better than one?

I ordered a large wood about a month or so ago and am patiently waiting but while I do I keep pondering the thumb stud choice.

One thumb stud or two? Any thoughts for or against?

Personally I always go for the double. I was riding my trail bike and my shoe string got wrapped up in the chain and I had to open my left-handed sebenza and cut myself loose with my right hand only and thank God I had the double thumbstud. Why limit yourself to opening with one hand only? If you want the double stud have it added before you get it because the shipping cost to and from Chris Reeves with insurance is expensive. I have three Sebenza and they all have double studs.

"For" a double:

* ambidextrous on the opening movement.

Against a double:
* I can open my RH sebenza with my left hand easily. I start the opening with middle finger, and finish with either index on stud or thumb on blade. It's not super fast, but it isn't slow either. Or you can start it opening and then flick it open the rest of the way. I can also close it with left hand quite easily. I practice this kind of mindlessly while I talk on the phone at work...just a fidgety habit. (And I only cut myself about once a quarter practicing with some 30+ folders).

* That other stud can grab the seam of your blue jeans or khacki pants pocket and snag on the way out. An annoyance at most since I'm not an armchair commando who practices draw speed with my Sebenza.

I have three Kit Carson folders that came with ambi studs. I removed the left-handed stud from the two that snagged my pocket (and Kit supplied a small screw to thread in to that side to fill the hole). The other was a bit lower profile and rounder and it's fine.

To each his own.

The one on my small snags on my pants alot, but usually with one particular pair that is in bad shape anyways (if I spent money on pants, I couldn't afford mroe knives

).

One of these days I am going to send my large back for a dual thumbstud and engraving...
