There are tons of Chinese copies, but the real thing is made in the US. The diamonds should be just fine, and what likely happened was he was unfamiliar with diamond stones and he used a lot of pressure and just ripped all the diamonds out. Those unfamiliar with (proper) knife sharpening aren't aware that pressure is not your friend.

Post Edited: Mine became irrelevant while being typed:
Are you referring to the Wicked Edge? I believe it has always been made in China. It does seem to be made to strict tolerances and have been inspected by their US warehouse.
Reading between the lines, Mr. Allison's recent response to the accuser is in the recent past. Suffice to say, if one made a recent Wicked Edge purchase, it was Made in China.
I don't know where Wicked Edge had their diamond adhesion done. But there are certain differences. I had extensive experience in my past life, while working in DOD, designed/manufactured/used lapping tool, accurately machined in various incremental angles - sourced using American company to coat diamond on lapping tools, in incremental grits, used under stringent required DOD industrial type work repetition, longevity/expected performance were remarkable.
I also read WEP is experiencing issues with their ceramics? Is that a legitimate issue from their other sourced company or just rants from other unhappy customers?
